George Fenwick Jones I family papers, 1855-1881.

This collection contains four journals relating to George Fenwick Jones (1841-1876) and his family. The first journal is a summary of Jones' conduct while on a trip to Switzerland. It contains reports, in French, from his teachers. Additionally there are letters from Jones to his parents in both English and French. The second journal is Jones' personal account of his trip. Included are pictures of various castles he visited on his journey. The third journal is from Wallace Savage Jones and contains Wallace's account of the trip to Switzerland. The fourth journal is by Anna Habersham Jones, George's wife. In the journal she recounts her life with George Fenwick Jones, including their courtship, early married life, the birth of their three children, and Jones' sudden death of apoplexy.

George Fenwick Jones (1842-1876), of Savannah, Georgia, served as secretary to William L. Yancey, the Confederate States of America Commissioner to London. As a boy, Jones studied for two years in Bellerive, Switzerland and kept a journal of a twenty-one day holiday in Switzerland. In 1871, Jones married Anna Wylly Habersham and together had three children: Josephine Noble Jones, Mary Savage Jones, and George Fenwick Noble Jones II. In 1876, after five years of marriage, Jones died of apoplexy. ...
